AERODOC day in Normandy (Part 1)
The first meeting after the AERODOC holidays was organized on the initiative of our "aerodocian" friend Philippe, in his stronghold in Normandy, where he devotes a lot of time to the Franco-German Radar Museum in Douvres-la-Délivrande.
The members available this first day of September met at ten-thirty in front of the museum where they were a small coffee was waiting for them and a “pain au chocolat” and Philippe who will ensure the presentation and the visit.
Philippe describes the operation of this radar antenna…
Visit of the buried Anton bunker where the history of the site is presented.
Striking image of the graves of two belligerents buried side by side...
The visit continues and we discover how the site works and thanks to the explanations of our guide, we discover "how it works".
Remarkably accurate models show the construction and operation of the site.
A series of models show the radars in the Allied and German armies.
Presentation of the different rooms and equipment always commented and explained in three languages.
Many period photos show the control rooms on the British side.
And the German side.
Philippe continues the explanations as a perfect connoisseur of the radars he has used during his career as an air traffic controller, like his colleagues present today and those who did not know left fully informed.
A presentation of the equipment and the development of radars.
When leaving the bunker, a small resident asked our friend Jean for his snack.
It’s difficult to show everything here, but if you are interested in radars and history, a museum, you must visit. And for more information a visit to their site is required:
Thank you to the museum team and to Philippe for this wonderful visit.
To be continued…
