VACATION DUTY Part 2

On Monday, August 19, the museum has been open for a few minutes, upon our arrival in a heat of more than 35 degrees, Mr. Claude TOURNIAIRE President of the association “Friends of the 5th squadron” awaits us under the wing of the “CRUSADER F -8E (FN) No. 8”.

After short presentations we will take shelter in a small air-conditioned room and we begin our exchanges, we talk about our mutual experiences, Mifa goes for a first photo tour (see Part 1). We arrive at this mutual observation: that without all the tenacious, obstinate, even slightly dull volunteers, our industrial and technical heritage would no longer exist... But we already knew that.

As we are not here to lament and we are no longer able to sit still, we ask our host to continue the visit through the adjoining hangar.

In addition to the machines exhibited outdoors, new wonders await us and we no longer know where to turn:

-          - MD 452 Mystère II C n° 52 currently being restored

-          - Epsilon

-          - Scales

-          - Workbenches

-          - Track tractor

-          - ETC…

-          - And a large stock of spare parts stored on shelves.

We don't know where to look...

And suddenly the object of our desires appears.

We immediately return to the cooler to see the possibilities of transferring the visor.  After a quick telephone contact with our president, an appointment is made for the beginning of the following week to take possession.

A week after our first visit, at 3 p.m. we arrived at the museum “our new visor” was already waiting for us at the entrance to the hangar.

Loading starts right away...

A visitor helps us spontaneously.

Well secured, secure and checked by the master of the place, our visor is ready to leave this museum which brings together this superb collection and which deserves more help and support to reward this team of volunteers.

The return to Athis went without problems apart from the surprise of certain motorists.

Our Mirage 3B is impatiently waiting for Frederic to finish assembling the wheels to tackle the visor... but that will be another story.

Finally a big THANK YOU to Mr. TOURIAIRE for his help and especially for all his advice that we will apply to our Mirages.

Now if you haven't already done so, go visit the site:
